I have many, many favourite songs. Thousands. Anyone who says they have one favourite song is either lying (for reasons best known to themselves) or they don’t like music OR - and this is most people - they think they have to have an answer to the question ‘What is your favourite song?’. Don’t play that game. Refuse to answer.
Anyway I like everything on this playlist, of course. Listening to it recently, I was struck by how the songs from the twenty-first century stand up, despite the competition here. ‘Lights Out’, ‘Shark Smile’, (how are there STILL combinations of chords that make you swoon?) ‘Your Dog’, ‘King Kunta’ ,
’s ‘You And I’…I know now that they are permanent additions to my desert island discs, although admittedly the island is now the size of Australia. I am sorry about the drop in volume for Alternative TV’s ‘Love Lives Limp’, a song about impotence that contrasts nicely with the tough libidinousness of ‘You And I’. I first heard it on a flexidisc attached to the New Musical Express in. 1978, and it sounds as though Spotify have used that exact same version. (The other day I was listening to a jazz record on Spotify and it had a scratch on it.)Enjoy.
Every time someone asks me my favourite song or album I reference "High Fidelity" and tell them there is no such thing!
loving this playlist! Muddy Waters and Margaret Glaspy Yes!!!!
